Release Notes: Altair Feko 2022.1.3

Altair Feko 2022.1.3 is available with new features, corrections and improvements. This version (2022.1.3) is a patch release that should be applied to an existing 2022 or 2022.1 installation.

Feko is a powerful and comprehensive 3D simulation package intended for the analysis of a wide range of electromagnetic radiation and scattering problems. Applications include antenna design, antenna placement, microstrip antennas and circuits, dielectric media, scattering analysis, electromagnetic compatibility studies including cable harness modelling and many more.

newFASANT complements Altair’s high frequency electromagnetic software tool (Altair Feko) for general 3D EM field calculations, including, among others, special design tools tailored for specific applications like complex radomes including FSS, automated design of reflectarrays and ultra-conformed reflector antennas, analysis of Doppler effects, ultrasound systems including automotive or complex RCS, and antenna placement problems. Advanced solver technologies like the MoM combined with the characteristic basis functions (CBFS), PO/GO/PTD, GTD/PO and MLFMM parallelised through MPI/OpenMP, being some of them especially efficient for the analysis of electrically very large problems.

WinProp is the most complete suite of tools in the domain of wireless propagation and radio network planning. With applications ranging from satellite to terrestrial, from rural via urban to indoor radio links, WinProp’s innovative wave propagation models combine accuracy with short computation times.

WRAP is a comprehensive tool for electromagnetic propagation, antenna collocation and spectrum management. WRAP combines propagation analysis, often over large areas with many transmitters and receivers, with system analysis to include complex non-linear equipment properties.

Feko 2022.1.3 Release Notes

The most notable extensions and improvements to Feko are listed by component.

CADFEKO

Features

  • Added support for Parasolid geometry import of files with .xmt_txt, .xmt_bin, .p_b, .p_t, .xmp_bin and .xmp_txt extensions.
  • Added a Cassegrain Reflector Antenna to the Component Library.
  • A Dual-Mode Horn Antenna component has been added to the Component Library.
  • Added a Gregorian Reflector Antenna to the Component Library.
  • Added an Offset Cassegrain Reflector Antenna to the Component Library.

Resolved Issues

  • When opening a legacy CADFEKO model that includes cable bundles using auto-bundling, the correct bundling approach will be used.
  • Resolved a problem with the handling of multiple configurations where the previous configuration contains a superset of the loads or excitations in the current configuration. Loads and excitations were not cleared correctly between these configurations and would incorrectly be included in the subsequent configuration. The problem affected results and would be observed as additional, unexpected loads in POSTFEKO.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause a hang or a crash when clicking the Browse button on file and folder browsers in a Lua form.
  • Fixed a bug that made the notes view not editable from the keyboard.
  • Fixed view anchoring for rotating scaled model meshes in the 3D view.
  • Fixed view anchoring for rotating parts while on Simulation Mesh display mode.
  • Improved crash feedback so that a dialog is displayed instead of the application silently closing.
  • Improved the meshing of structures which include long, curved edges (such as helices). Also improved the impact of advanced meshing options for refinement factor and minimum element size when meshing these types of models.

POSTFEKO

Resolved Issues

  • Resolved an issue that caused an assertion to fail when enabling the mesh visibility options for tetrahedral edges or volumes in large models with over 110 000 000 mesh elements.

Solver

Resolved Issues

  • Resolved an issue that incorrectly triggered errors for some models including FEM line ports and non-radiating networks.
  • Avoided an error in MPI parallelization libraries that may have caused a simulation to abort due to a change in network connection.

WinProp 2022.1.3 Release Notes

The most notable extensions and improvements to WinProp are listed by component.

ProMan

Resolved Issues

  • Improved the handling of scattered rays at different materials resulting in improvements in accuracy of SBR predictions.
  • For the OFDM simplex network planning now the MS results will be considered (if available), so far always the propagation results were considered.
  • Resolved an issue with loading a very large topography database.
  • Resolved an issue that gave a false error in an urban project solved by IRT method.
  • The memory limit shown on the 3D tab of the Global Settings dialog is now displayed correctly. In case of too low value, it should be once manually set to 4 mega pixels.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented rays from being displayed in a time-variant case where a transmitter moved along a trajectory.
  • Resolved an exception that may have occurred when importing topo data into ProMan.
  • An incorrect RunMS error (702) is now avoided for time-variant projects involving fine time increments.

WallMan

Resolved Issues

  • Fixed an incorrect interpretation of a topography-database-file extension in capital letters.

GUI

Resolved Issues

  • Avoided an error in MPI parallelization libraries that may have caused a simulation to abort due to a change in network connection.
