Configure Fatigue Analysis

Use the CG tool to calculate fatigue based on the strain-life uniaxial method.

  1. Click the CG module tool.
    Figure 1.
    The Crack Growth dialog opens.
  2. Confirm that the damage type and method are set to strain life and uniaxial fatigue.
Note: Currently, only solid elements are supported for both fatigue and crack growth analysis in HyperLife Crack Growth.
  3. Select the FE model units.
This setting is necessary because the EN curve may be defined in different units. The FEA stress needs to be converted before using the EN curve to determine fatigue life for a given stress level.
  4. Select a stress combination.
Note: This option is only available for uniaxial analyses.
    Supported options include:
    • abs. max. principal
    • signed von Mises
    • signed max shear
    • max. principal
    • critical plane
  5. Enter a certainty of survival value based on the scatter of the EN curve.
Note: The value must be a real number between 0 and 1.

  6. Select a mean and plasticity stress correction option.
Note: These options are only available for uniaxial analyses. They define the linear stress correction above the elastic region.
  7. Select the Result Input.
    Stress
Use this option to query stress for strain-life evaluation.
Note: Strain-life evaluation in the Crack Growth module is supported for time series loading only.
