SimLab Tutorial: MSIM Wireless Power Transfer
Description
This study case will present how to use the new integral-method-based 3D magnetostatic solution in SimLab to model and analyze a wireless power transfer coupler (“EE” type). This solution can effectively help users analyze devices with predominant air region
The goal is to compute the mutual-inductance between the primary coil and secondary coil under disturbances.

Geometry modeling
Starting from the SimLab sketcher, users can implement 3D parametric geometry modeling in SimLab by using 2D and 3D geometric operations. The geometric modeling process for this device is as follows:

Physical description
Since the integral-method-based 3D magnetostatic solution does not need to consider the surrounding air region, in the physical definition, only the moving part (motion) and the excitation source (non-meshed coils) need to be considered, as shown below:

Study 1: mutual inductance versus distance
The direction of motion is controlled by Motion LBC. The following is the mutual inductance curve when the motion is defined in the Z-direction (distance).

Study 2: mutual inductance versus misalignment
The direction of motion is controlled by Motion LBC. The following is the mutual inductance curve when the motion is defined in the X-direction (misalignment).

Section3: mutual inductance versus movement
The direction of motion is controlled by Motion LBC. The following is the mutual inductance curve when the motion is defined in the Y-direction (movement).

Example access
All files corresponding to this example are accessible in the following link: Tutorial package.
Example: After installing the SimLab 2025 release, you can find the latest Tuto_2024.zip package. This means that the tutorial has not been updated since 2024 release, that the tutorial does not need to be updated, and that the tutorial still works in 2024.1 release and 2025 release.
