Creating Properties and Units Using Catalog Edit

The Administrator can create, edit and organize properties of materials in the AMDC catalog using the Catalog Edit tool.

In this tutorial, we will update the catalog to display a new property of Pricing for all materials with a Currency unit of Euro.

We will see how to:

Prerequisites

  • Access to Content Management Tools requires the user to be assigned administrator roles and permissions to add, modify, and organize the material database.

Step 1: Launch Catalog Edit tool

  1. Click the Altair One App Launcher .
  2. Click Content Management Tools.

  3. Click Catalog Edit.

Step 2: Defining a New Unit

Since we want to display Currencies as units for Pricing, we will add it to Base Catalog > Meta data > Units.

  1. Expand Base Catalog in the AMDC - Catalog Edit page.

  2. Click the catalog Meta data > Units.

  3. Click add item to add a new item in the Units sub-catalog.

  4. In the Add item dialog box select Type as Group.

    To orgainze data, items in the Base catalog are categorized as collectors such as sections and groups.

    • Enter Name as Currencies.

  5. Click OK.

    A numeric propery called Currencies is added to the Base Catalog > Meta data > Units.

    A numeric property stores single point value. It is typically used to store a mechanical property.

  6. Click add item to add Euro as currency.

  7. Select Type as Unit in the Add item dialog box.
    • Enter Name as Euro.

  8. Click OK.

    The new currency item Euro is added.

Step 3: Add Pricing Information to the Properties catalog

Add a property of Pricing for all materials with a Currency unit of Euro.

  1. Expand Properties in the Base Catalog.
  2. Click add item to add a new group.

  3. In the Add item dialog box, select type as Numeric.
    • For Name, enter Price.
    • For Value Type, select Numeric.
    • For Unit, select Euro.

    A new property Pricing Information is added.
  4. Click add item to add single point numeric values for the new group Pricing Information.

  5. In the Add Item dialog box, select Type as Numeric.
    • For Name, enter Price
    • For Value Type, enter Numeric
    • For Unit, enter Euro

  6. Click OK.

    The new property item Pricing Information is added.

New Meta data catalog Currencies and its properties Pricing Information is added.

When you add material, Pricing Information will be available as a property. You can specify the material's price in Euros.
