How Do I Fix a Partially Computed Sketch with Orphaned Items?

When there's a dimension or a sketch relation between a sketch entity and a reference edge/vertex and, for any reason, an upstream geometry change triggers a downstream compute that removes the reference edge/vertex, these missing references are shown as orphans inside the sketch. A sketch with orphans will be indicated by a warning icon in the construction history browser.

To fix the missing references inside the sketch, double-click it to enter edit mode. You will see an orphan icon and a tooltip, indicating an orphaned item.

Intersected entities
  1. Select the orphans and press Delete.
Note: If the missing reference is an intersection curve, pressing Delete would not remove the orphan.
    1. On the Sketch ribbon, select the Intersect tool.
    2. In the guide bar, select one of the following:
      • Parts: Select this option if you intersected a part.
      • Surfaces: Select this option if you intersected a surface.
    3. While holding down Ctrl, select the intersection.
  2. Now you can reapply the geometric relationship between the desired construction features.
Projected entities
  1. Do one of the following:
    • Select the orphans and press Delete.
    • Select the orphans, right-click, and then select Delete Projected Items.
  2. Now you can reapply the geometric relationship between the desired construction features.
