Tutorial: Calibrator Analysis with Boundary Conditions

Model a calibrator using boundary conditions

Open the Tutorial Model

Data files are available in the tutorial_models folder in the installation directory in Program Files\Altair\2023\InspireExtrudePolymer2023\tutorial_models\extrudepolymer\tutorial-4\.
  1. Open the L_profile.x_t tutorial model file from the file menu or by dragging and dropping the file into the Inspire Extrude window.
Note: The imported model already has profile solid and calibrator dies created.
  2. Set the display units to Metric (mm kg MPa C s).

Orient the Model

  1. Click the Calibration ribbon.
  2. Click the Orient icon.

  3. On the model, click the exit surface of the profile solid.

Select Materials

  1. Click the Materials icon.

  2. Select Polymers > PP > PP_Generic.

  3. Right click on the material and click Select.
  4. After the material is selected, verify the bottom material under Selected Materials and deselect the material that is not needed for this analysis, PVC_Generic.
Note: To deselect a material, right click on the selected material and click Deselect.

Specify Process Data: Inlet

  1. Click the Inlet icon.

  2. Select the profile inlet surface and edit inlet properties.

  3. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.

Identify Calibrator Dies

This model has two calibrator dies. Select them one at a time and update the properties.

  1. Click the Calibrator icon.

  2. Select calibrator_die1 and edit die properties.

  3. Repeat for calibrator_die2.
  4. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.

Identify Coolant Channels

  1. Click the Coolant icon.

Coolant channels are automatically identified and highlighted in blue.

  2. Right-click and mouse through the check mark to exit, or double-right-click.

Submit the Job for Simulation

  1. Click on the Analysis tool in the Run group.

  2. Specify the parameters of the analysis process. Select 3D Mesh and Coarse mesh size.

  3. Click Run.

View Simulation Results

When the analysis is complete, double-click the name of the run to review simulation results in the Analysis Explorer.
Note: You can also open the L_profile.iep file to view the results.
