Get Started with EDEM
The EDEM user interface comprises three icons for each simulation component - Creator, Simulator, and Analyst.
EDEM Creator
EDEM Creator is the pre-processor for creating an EDEM simulation model, including setting up equipment and defining the generation of bulk materials.
EDEM Simulator
EDEM Simulator is a powerful solver used for fast and efficient simulations.
EDEM Analyst
EDEM Analyst is the post-processor used to analyze and visualize the results of your simulation.
EDEM Physics Models
A Contact Model describes how elements behave when they come into contact with each other.
EDEM Cal Utility
EDEM Cal is a utility which works with EDEM and is designed to assist in performing calibration.
- Load a Deck
  The first step in setting up a calibration run is to load in a prototype EDEM deck. The deck should be configured so that they can be executed from the command line.
- Post Processing of Simulations
  EDEM Cal allows automated post processing of simulations based on a pre-configured data query from EDEM Analyst and an EDEMpy script.
  - Processing Options
    Processing options are used to determine how each simulation will run.
- Submit a Job
  EDEM Cal is a Windows-only application that can generate a batch job for Linux. The EDEM Cal utility allows you to submit a job to alternative computers on your network or on the cloud using the input files from EDEM Cal, and all the job-related files such as input, output, and logs are copied back to the EDEM Cal utility once the job is complete.
- Parameter Editor
  The Parameter Editor allows you to modify the parameters once the deck is loaded. The parameters that you can modify are: Particle-Particle interactions, Particle-Geometry interactions, and Physics model parameters and options.
- Analyze Results
  The Results Analysis section of EDEM Cal combines all the results files into a single csv file.
EDEM Calibration Kits
The EDEM Calibration kits are a collection of EDEM models of standard bulk solids characterization tests commonly used for EDEM material model calibration.

Post Processing of Simulations

EDEM Cal allows automated post processing of simulations based on a pre-configured data query from EDEM Analyst and an EDEMpy script.

To use post processing options:

In the EDEM Cal page, select Post Processing and specify the following details:


For	Specify
No Analysis	You can use manual or alternative approach for analysis. In such instances, no post processing options will be required from EDEMCal. Select to ensure that no post processing will be performed.
EDEM	Indicates that you can use a predefined query within the EDEM Analyst to analyze each of the simulations performed by EDEMCal. In order to perform this analysis, the query must be compatible with the EDEM prototype deck. You must save and close the EDEM simulation. The EDEM Configuration file (`.dfg`) contains the Analyst settings which you can specify or paste into the field or use Windows Explorer. To locate the file in Windows Explorer, click the ... icon. Navigate to the `dfg` file and select Open to populate the box with the path to the `.dfg` file. The `.dfg` Data file (`.ess`) contains information about bin groups. If the analysis performed contains bin groups, the `.ess` file will be required in addition to the `.dfg` file. You can specify or paste it into the field or locate the file using Windows Explorer. To locate the file in Windows Explorer, click the ... icon. Navigate to the `ess` and select Open to populate the box with the path to the `.ess` file.
Python Analysis	You can use an EDEMpy script for post processing. For more information about running EDEMpy analysis, see the EDEM User Forum. Deck specification flag: `-d` (or similar to what is in the script). Python file location: input path to the `.py` file.
