Define Volume Probes

Use the Probes tool to define volume probes.

When volume probes are defined, HyperMesh CFD writes all volume variables to disk at the request output interval.

  1. Create volume probes.
    1. From the Setup ribbon, click the Output tool.

      Figure 1.
    2. From the secondary tool set, click the volume probes of the Probes tool.

      Figure 2.
    3. Click in the modeling window to create probes.
  2. Optional: Define volume probe settings in the microdialog.
    1. Define the start iteration or start time.
To define the start time, see step 3 of Define Surface Probes.
    2. Define the output interval, refinement level, or target frequency.
To define the refinement level, see step 5 of Define Surface Probes. To define the target frequency, see step 6 of Define Surface Probes.

  3. Optional: Import and export volume probes.
    1. From the legend in the top-left of the modeling window, right-click the active probe set and select Probes table from the context menu.
    2. In the dialog, select to import volume probes.
    3. In the dialog, select to export volume probes.
For more information, see Import, Export, and Edit Output Controls.
  4. Optional: Create probes from a rake.
For more information, see Create Volume Probes from Rake.
  5. Change the color of probes.
    1. From the legend in the top-left of the modeling window, right-click the active probes and select Change color from the context menu.
    2. Use the color picker to edit the color of the selected probes.
Tip: Create custom colors within the color picker by clicking .
  6. Move probes in the modeling window.
    1. Select a probe.
    2. In the microdialog, select .
    3. Use the graphical manipulators to move the probe.

  7. From the guide bar, complete one of the following:
    • Select to confirm your selection and continue creating sets of probe points.
    • Select to confirm your selection and exit the tool.
