File Preparation Settings Screen

Use this screen to specify the desired settings when preparing files for use with Monarch. This screen displays when you click the Next button on the Specify Source and Destination Files Screen after having selected the Prepare Files for Monarch option on the Choose a Task Screen.

Options

The File Preparation Settings screen includes the following options:

  • Replace all instances of a string with another string or an empty string - This function allows the replacement of a string with another string in a file (or files) that meets a wildcard specification.

  • Replace - Enter the string which you wish to find in the specified file(s).

  • With - Enter the string with which you wish to replace the string specified in the Replace field. Note that if you leave this box blank, the string specified in Replace will be deleted.

  • Insert Line breaks into continuous stream files - This function allows you to segment a stream (i.e., a single line) of text or data into segments of a specified length, delimited by a line break.

  • Segment length - Enter the length of segment after which you wish to insert a line break.

  • Insert Line Breaks into files having line lengths greater than 4000 characters - This function allows you to insert line breaks for files that have lines of text greater than 4000 characters, which is the maximum line input length supported by Monarch V8.

  • Segment lengths separated by spaces - You may specify one or more lengths after which you wish to insert a line break (e.g., 2000 1500 1000), separated by a space.

  • Format EDI - This function performs pre-processing on EDI files to enable easier processing in Monarch. Usually, the best way to trap files after they have been pre-processed is through the use of the floating trap feature.

  • This function has the option to auto-detect the EDI formatting characters in the file using a variety of techniques including the analysis of the ISA segment of ANSI X12 files and the UNA segment in the case of EDIFACT files. If the input files have these sections stripped off, or are otherwise non-standard, then the formatting characters can be specified explicitly.

  • Add a space for consecutive elements/sub-element separators - This function adds line breaks after the segment delimiters in the file (if they do not already exist), and also adds white space between consecutive element separators and subelement separators (indicating no data), to enable the creation of templates based on a sample EDI file that has no data in these sections, although future iterations of the files may contain data.

  • Auto-Detect Formatting Characters - This option will attempt to auto-detect the formatting characters within the specified file according to the rules above.

  • Remove new lines before processing

  • Segment Delimiter - Specifies the character for the segment delimiter/segment terminator.

  • Element Separator - Specifies the character for the element separator/data element separator.

  • Sub Element Separator - Specifies the character for the subelement/component data element separator.

  • Release Character - Specifies the character for the release character. Note this only applies to EDIFACT files and is optional when specifying formatting characters explicitly.

  • Back - Displays the Specify Source and Destination Files screen.

  • Next - Displays the Task Summary screen.

  • Cancel - Cancels the operation and closes the Monarch Utility.

  • Help - Displays this help topic.
