Refreshing an External Lookup

When working with an external lookup, Monarch Classic does not maintain a live connection to the external database from which the linked fields are drawn. Instead, it imports a copy of the linked field values and then closes the connection to the external database.

While working with linked fields in your Monarch Classic session, you may find it desirable to occasionally refresh the data from the external database, especially if the database is updated on a constant basis. For example, if you are using Monarch Classic to analyze financial data for a multinational corporation, you might create an external lookup that maintains a list of foreign currency exchange rates for use in converting balances to a local currency. The exchange rates database may be constantly updated. At any point, you could refresh the linked fields to yield up-to-date conversion rates.

To refresh an external lookup, select Rebuild Data View from the Table View ribbon.

Monarch Classic will refresh all linked fields and any filter, calculated field, sort, or summary definitions that rely upon linked fields.
