How Do I Fix a Partially Computed Sketch with Orphaned Items?

When there is a geometric relationship, such as a dimension, between two construction features, the construction features can be called the "parents" and the geometric relationship the "child."

When you suppress or delete one of the parent construction features, the child geometric relationship becomes an "orphan" and the sketch is partially computed, as indicated by the warning icon in the Construction History.

For the sketch to be fully computed, double-click it to enter edit mode. The dotted line indicates the parent construction feature that was suppressed or deleted. The icon and a tooltip indicate an orphaned item.

Intersected entities
  1. Select the orphans and press Delete.
Note: If the intersection partially computed, but it isn't an orphan:
    1. On the Sketch ribbon, select the Intersect tool.
    2. In the guide bar, select one of the following:
      • Parts: Select this option if you intersected a part.
      • Surfaces: Select this option if you intersected a surface.
    3. While holding down Ctrl, select the intersection.
  2. Now you can reapply the geometric relationship between the desired construction features.
Projected entities
  1. Do one of the following:
    • Select the orphans and press Delete.
    • Select the orphans, right-click, and then select Delete Projected Items.
