Mean

The mean of the selection.

Returns the average of a given set of numbers.

The mean is the sum of all the values in a set of numbers, divided by the number of values.

 

Sample 1

Given a list of arbitrary numbers:

A list of positive and negative numbers

  1. Compute the sum of the values.

    3 + 2 + 1 + 0 + -1 + -2 + -3 + 0 + 0 = 0

  2. Divide it by the number of values.

    0/10 = 0

 

Sample 2

Assuming that the same list of numbers has multiple groupings or breakdowns as shown below:

Computing for the mean of the Arbitrary field based on the Grouping field will result in the table below:

Computation Details:

Group 1: 3 + 2 + 1 + 0 = 6/4 = 1.5
Group 2: -1 + -2 + -3 = -6/3 = -2
Group 3: 0 + 0 + 0 = 0/3 = 0
