Delimited Text File Export Rules in the Summary window
When you export a summary to a delimited text file, Monarch Classic uses the following rules to create the export file:
Records
Each row in the summary is used to create a record in the export file.
Columns
Each column in the summary is used to create a field in the export file.
To export a key field column containing character values, Monarch Classic first removes all trailing spaces from each value, resulting in values of varying lengths. Character values are optionally enclosed in quotes to differentiate them from other field types. See the Put 'quotes' around character field values setting in the Export Options.
Key field columns containing date values are always exported in the eight character YYYYMMDD format.
Key field columns and measure columns containing numeric values are always exported in their most compact form, i.e., without currency symbols or thousands separators.
Column titles
Monarch Classic can optionally export the column titles as the first record. To export the column titles, select the Include field names as the first row of output setting in Export Options.
Note: When appending data to a delimited text file, the column titles are not included as the first record, regardless of the state of the Include field names as the first row of output setting.
Column delimiters
Monarch Classic separates values in a delimited text file with a special delimiter character, usually a comma. You can specify another delimiter character on the Text Files tab in Export Options.
