Launching Project Files from Your Desktop

You can load a project file automatically when you start a Monarch Classic session by creating an icon for the project and placing it on the Windows desktop. When you double-click the icon, a Monarch Classic session will start and the specified project will load automatically.

Creating icons for project files

  1. Launch Windows Explorer.

  2. Navigate to the folder that contains the project file.

  3. Right-click on the project file and select Create Shortcut from the context menu. Windows creates a new entry named Shortcut to [project file name].

  4. Drag the new entry out of Windows Explorer and onto the desktop, then release the mouse button.

  5. Close Windows Explorer.

Modifying icons

  1. Right-click on the icon to display a context menu.

  2. Select Properties from the context menu. The Shortcut Properties dialog is displayed for the icon.

  3. Select the Shortcut tab at the top of the dialog.

  4. Select the Change Icon button. The Change Icon dialog displays.

  5. Type C:\Program Files (x86)\Altair Monarch 2022\DWMonarch.exe in the File Name box.

    Notes:

    • For a 64-bit installation, use C:\Program Files\Altair Monarch 2022\DWMonarch.exe instead.

    •  If you installed Monarch Classic in a folder other than the installation default (i.e., C:\Program Files\Altair Monarch 2022), substitute that folder in place of the default one.

  6. Choose OK in the Shortcut Properties dialog. The Current Icon box will display all of the icon images available in the Monarch Classic executable file.

Note: You may need to scroll right to view additional icon images.

  7. Select an icon image from the list, then choose OK.

  8. Choose OK in the Icon Properties dialog to return to the Windows desktop.

When you double-click the icon, a Monarch Classic session will start and the specified project will load automatically.
