Adding File Metadata Columns to Tables

There may be instances when your analysis will require the use of file metadata. Data Prep Studio provides an easy means to add the metadata of Excel, delimited text, and PDF/PRN files as columns to your tables.

The table below describes the metadata items you can add to a table.

File Type

Excel/Delimited Text

File Name

The file path of the source file.

File Last Modified

The last modified date of the source file.

File Created

The creation date of the source file.

Sheet Name (Excel)

The name of the sheet from which the table was obtained.

PDF/PRN

Report File No

 

Report File Name

The file path of the report file.

Report File Last Modified

The last modified date of the report file.

Report File Created

The creation date of the report file.

Report Page

The page number from which the record was obtained.

Report Line

The line number in the report from which the record was obtained.

Report Column

The column number of the report from which the record was obtained.

PDF Producer

The PDF Producer of the report file.

Report Page Count

The number of pages of the report file.

     

    You can add metadata to your table by performing the steps below. 

  1. In the Prepare window, select the table with metadata you wish to include in your table. At the bottom of the Change History panel, click the Metadata Columns button.

    You can also expand the context menu of any column in the table and then select Column > Add or Remove Metadata Columns from the options that display.

  2. In the Add or Remove Metadata Columns dialog that displays, tick the boxes of each metadata item you want to bring into your table. Alternatively, tick the box for Name to add all of the available metadata items to your table.

  3. Click OK when you are finished.
