Gears

Use the Gears tool to create a gear entity to relate the motion of two joints.

Gears Properties

Descriptions of gears properties in the Property Editor.

Property Name Description
General
Name Name of the entity
Variable Name The variable name, a unique identifier string of the entity
ID A unique identifying integer
Joint 1 The first joint that represents a gear or pinion in a gear set
Joint 2 The second joint that represents a gear or pinion in a gear set
Origin Location where the gear and pinion meshes

This will define the gear ration between the two joints.

Use Virtual Virtual is an expert option that is very similar to a rigid joint, but with "soft constraint" behavior that is useful for avoiding redundant joints. Default uses the global setting from the Run Motion Analysis window.
Orientation
Method Method of specifying direction of motion at the contacting point and, hence, the direction of the contact forces at the teeth.

Point or Vector

Point Point and Origin define the direction of motion at the contacting point when Method is Point.
