RD-V: 0560 Air Burst

Evaluation of the /LOAD/PBLAST option for air burst blast waves. This analysis focuses on evaluating the /LOAD/PBLAST keyword by comparing Radioss results with surface burst experimental data (Exp_data = 3).

The analysis is carried out using two different FE Radioss models:

Surface Burst

Since the experimental data (UFC charts) use the {cm, g, µs, Mbar} unit system, this study is conducted using the same unit system.

The surface burst is characterized by a wave decomposed in two regions:
  • A Mach Front region, where the reflected and the incident waves overlap, forming an assuming constant pressure planar wave,
  • A Free Air Burst region above the Mach Front.
In Radioss, only the Mach Front region is implemented along the vertical axis (shown in the animation below):

Without the errors from the impulses, the maximum error obtained is 0.67% and the average error across all data is 0.02%.

These errors are due to interpolation between charts data points and the discretization of the time pressure response.
