HS-1820: Visualizing Contours on 3D Models

Learn how to visualize simulation results directly on 3D models.

Before you begin, complete HS-1680: Set Up an OptiStruct Model or import the HS-1820.hstx archive file, available in <hst.zip>/HS-1820/.

Define Media Sources

  1. If you choose to start with the archive file, go to the Test Models step and click Run Definition. Otherwise (if HS-1680 was completed prior), this step is not necessary.
  2. Go to Media Sources tab at the Define Output Responses step. There are two ways to add media sources: automatically (only .h3d files) and manually. For the manual process, click Add Media Source. Otherwise, click Find Media.
    1. Select beam.h3d file from approaches/setup_1- def/run__00001/m_1 to the work area.

    2. Click … in the Tool Settings column and configure contour settings as shown below. Click OK.

Perform Sampling DOE

In this step you will create a dataset with Sobol Sequence. The dataset will allow visualization of stress contour change through a set of design points.

  1. Add a DOE.
    1. In the Explorer, right-click and select Add from the context menu.
      The Add dialog opens.
    2. Select DOE.
    3. For Definition from, select Setup approach and click OK.
  2. Go to the DOE > Specifications step.
  3. In the work area, set the Mode to Modified Extensible Lattice Sequence and in the Settings tab of the Channel selector, change the number of runs to 4.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Go to the DOE 1 > Evaluate step.
  6. Click Evaluate Tasks.
  7. Go to the DOE > Post-Processing step.
  8. Review media result.
    1. Click the Media tab.
    2. Select all the runs in the Channel Selector to visualize results side-by-side.
Note: Make sure is active, otherwise results are displayed one at a time.
