Protecting block diagrams

You can assign a password to your diagram to keep other users from opening the diagram. You can also request or require that they open the diagram in read-only mode. To assign a password to a diagram and set options that control how much access other users have to the diagram, use File > Diagram Information.

You can assign password protection to specific parts of the diagram. You can also apply protection selectively to embedded diagrams and compound blocks.

Warning: If you decide to use a password to restrict access, make sure to write it down exactly as you entered it — passwords are case sensitive — and store it in a safe place. Without the password, even you cannot access the information.

To create a password

1.    Choose File > Diagram Information.

2.    In the Password box, enter a password and select the level of protection you want applied to the diagram.

Locked: Prevents other users from opening the diagram. Type a password in the Password box and activate Locked. Only users who know the password can open the diagram and make changes to it.

Read-Only: Lets other users open the diagram but prohibits them from making changes. Type a password in the Password box and activate Read Only. Only users who know the password can open the diagram.

3.    Click OK, or press ENTER.

4.    Re-enter the password for verification.

5.    Choose File > Save (CTRL+S).

The next time you or anyone else tries to open the diagram, Embed asks for the password.

To change or delete a password
