You can assign a password to your diagram to keep other users from opening the diagram. You can also request or require that they open the diagram in read-only mode. To assign a password to a diagram and set options that control how much access other users have to the diagram, use File > Diagram Information.
You can assign password protection to specific parts of the diagram. You can also apply protection selectively to embedded diagrams and compound blocks.
Warning: If you decide to use a password to restrict access, make sure to write it down exactly as you entered it — passwords are case sensitive — and store it in a safe place. Without the password, even you cannot access the information.
To create a password
1. Choose File > Diagram Information.
2. In the Password box, enter a password and select the level of protection you want applied to the diagram.
• Locked: Prevents other users from opening the diagram. Type a password in the Password box and activate Locked. Only users who know the password can open the diagram and make changes to it.
• Read-Only: Lets other users open the diagram but prohibits them from making changes. Type a password in the Password box and activate Read Only. Only users who know the password can open the diagram.
3. Click OK, or press ENTER.
4. Re-enter the password for verification.
5. Choose File > Save (CTRL+S).
The next time you or anyone else tries to open the diagram, Embed asks for the password.
To change or delete a password
1. Choose File > Diagram Information.
2. In the Password box, select the row of asterisks that represent the existing password and do one of the following:
• To change the password, enter a new password.
• To delete the password, press DEL.
3. Click OK, or press ENTER.
4. Choose File > Save (CTRL+S).
If you entered a new password, you must re-enter it for verification.
