Introduction to EDEM Tutorials
These introductory tutorials are intended for users who are new to EDEM, and want to learn the fundamentals of setting up, running, and analyzing a simulation.

Get Started with EDEM
The EDEM user interface comprises three icons for each simulation component - Creator, Simulator, and Analyst.
EDEM Creator
EDEM Creator is the pre-processor for creating an EDEM simulation model, including setting up equipment and defining the generation of bulk materials.
EDEM Simulator
EDEM Simulator is a powerful solver used for fast and efficient simulations.
EDEM Analyst
EDEM Analyst is the post-processor used to analyze and visualize the results of your simulation.
EDEM Contact Models
A Contact Model describes how elements behave when they come into contact with each other.
EDEM Cal Utility
EDEM Cal is a utility which works with EDEM and is designed to assist in performing calibration.
EDEM Calibration Kits
The EDEM Calibration kits are a collection of EDEM models of standard bulk solids characterization tests commonly used for EDEM material model calibration.

EDEM 1020 Rock Box - Part 1

This tutorial describes the simulation setup suitable for using the Altair Student Edition. This simulation can be set up quickly with low simulation time (~2 minutes on 2 CPU cores).

Objective

The objective of the Rock Box tutorial is to:

Use the GEMM database
Create multiple particle types and shapes
Use mixed shapes (Polyhedral particles and Multi-Sphere)
Import a particle size distribution from a *.csv file
Implement conveyor kinematics to the conveyor Geometries

The model used in this tutorial is a rock box.

Important: You must download the simulation and associated CAD files ( rock_box1.stl,


                        Rock_Template1.stl

and Rock_Template2.stl before starting the tutorial. In addition, a particle size distribution file is available (PSD.csv). It is recommended that you copy these files to the same location as the simulation files. To download the simulation files for this tutorial, see Download Simulation Files.
