Trap Type

Allows you to specify the type of trap to create. You can select from Standard, Regex, and Floating.

Trap Characters

Allows you to define traps to capture a specific line of the report.

Refer to the table of  Trap Characters below or hover over each trap character to determine what kind of characters a specific symbol traps.

Shift Left/Right

Allows you to shift traps and fields to the left or right on the Template Editor. This makes it easier to redefine templates if data in a new iteration of a report has shifted left or right.

Trap Line

Activated only when a multi-line text sample is selected, this tool Indicates which line of the report sample to trap against. Specify a value representing the offset (in lines) into the sample text where the trap will be applied.

Reset Trap

Removes all characters from the trap line.

Reset Fields

Removes all field definitions from the template.

Replace Sample Text

Instructs Monarch Data Prep Studio to use a newly selected line or set of lines as the sample text on which a template will be based.  

Redact Sample Text

Redacts all of the values in the sample text line.

Clearing Template

Instructs Monarch Data Prep Studio to use the selected template as a basis to stop collecting “assumed” values copied up (for footers) or down (for appends) when only intermittent data are available.

When a clearing template is selected, an Info Alert icon displays next to this setting. Hovering your mouse over this icon displays a message specifying what template is being used as a clearing template for the template in focus.

The Alpha Trap button inserts an Alpha trap character at the current cursor position on the trap line.

The Numeric Trap button inserts a Numeric trap character at the current cursor position on the trap line.

The Blank Trap button inserts a Blank trap character at the current cursor position on the trap line.

The Non-blank Trap button inserts a non-blank trap character at the current cursor position on the trap line.

The Numeric OR Trap button inserts a Numeric OR trap character at the current cursor position on the trap line.

The Character Trap button displays a list of special characters that may be used for improved trapping.
